Brampton has a few stories to tell one of which, In 1745 Bonnie Prince Charlie made Brampton his headquarters in 1745 (now Hamiltons Shoe Shop) and barracked his army here while he lay seige to Carlisle Castle. On the news of the prince's defeat a few months after this, six of his supporters were hanged from a tree on the South Side of Brampton. The tree is no longer there but in its place is a monument commemorating the event.
